We had a very good time at Gencon. Met a ton of gamers, and had many people enthusiastically pointing out our ships. As a matter of fact, we ran out of the Frigate within two hours on Thursday. For the rest of the convention, we had to take orders. And since it was our fault for running out, we gave them free shipping. We also had a lot of people ask us about a two level version of the frigate. We will work on that as soon as we get a chance.
We also had very good response for our new board game, "Bloody Pirates". People had a lot of fun at the demo, and will get some pictures up on the website soon.
I think, from the number of people that we saw at the booth, that attendance was up this year. Spending sure was.
We were located on the edge of the video game area, and it was a good location for us.
We will be very busy over the next couple of weeks, finishing up the orders from the convention, aka the ships.
Thanks to everyone that came by our booth and said 'hi'.
Ennie Awards Afterwards|
We had a great time at the Ennie awards ceremony!
We sat with White Wolf/CCP and they were a blast to chat and joke with. It was a good night for them, as they one for best Game -Scion, and Product of the year - PTolus. We are very happy for them and the other winners.
For us it was an honor to be nominated, especially to have our Deluxe Galleon be the first non-book product to be nominated to the Product of the Year. The real prize for us, has been the recognition and the industry contacts that we made.
We will trying again next year, probably expanding out into a couple of more categories. We are looking forward to it.
Thanks to all of you who voted and supported us.
Oh here is who I was going to thank in my speech, if we had won, but I think they deserve to be thanked anyways.
First, I wanted to thank Chris Johnson and Dustin Reid for their work on designing the ship.
Second, I wanted to thank David Bradtmueller, my production manager for working to improve it, so that it would go together and be a sturdy product.
Next, I wanted to thank my wife, Carrie, for bugging me to send my entry in to the Ennie awards.
And finally, I wanted to thank Henry, Eric, and all of the folks at Paragigm Concepts Inc, who inspired me to start Dragonfire Laser Crafts.

Woohoo!!! We are really happy about our nominations for the Ennie Awards. Of greatest shock/pleasure is that we were nominated in both the Miniature Product Category and Best Product Categories. The fact still has to sink in, but I think that we can handle it.
The product nominated was our Deluxe Galleon, which can be found on our Ships page.
I want to thank the judges for nominating us, and especially my wife, for bugging me until I sent our entry in.
Voting opened today, so please look at all of the nominees in all of the fields and vote. www.ennieawards.com

Sorry it's been so long since I last gave an update, but things have been a bit hectic.
First we just finished a job for CCP, aka White Wolf's new partner that will be making the rounds at the Eve card tournaments. I hope everyone likes it.
Second, I have gotten hooked on Mage the Awakening. We have to drive two hours down to the nearest game to us, but we are having a great time. (Although we are going to have to miss next month's game due to us being in Vegas for the GAMA Trade show.)
Third, we have been working on getting new materials to work in the laser. We now have leather working (Looks great on black leather where we fill in the engraved area with a different color). We have also reworked our photos on marble. They look really sharp now, as we got rid of most of the ghosting.
Next, we have found a supplier for several new and interesting items i.e. black and red onyx jewelry, unusual boxes that we can engrave, and several other items that I will post when I have pictures and prices ready.
I do have a couple of questions for those of you reading this. First, would you like on demand jewelry? Where we would engrave whatever image you want on the jewelry? Starting with the World of Darkness symbols and branching out from there? How about pictures on black marble coasters? You bring us your favorite photo of you and your friends in costume from the con, and we engrave it on coasters for everyone? (This one may require us taking the image back to the shop and then shipping it out.)
That's all for now. As always I am interested in hearing your feedback, and read all of the comments posted.

Getting Back in the swing of things|
We are currently trying to get everything running again after the new year. We spent last Wednesday going through a strategy meeting deciding both the directions for our company to pursue and which conventions that we are planning on attending.
Here is our tentative list.
April - GAMA Trade Show
May - SERECon in Atlanta
July - Origins
August - GENCon
September - DragonCon
October - ICC
November - Pentacon
There are some more that I didn't put on the list because the dates aren't set yet or haven't been announced.
We are also working on some new products, and a new partnership that I hope will work out well. (More on that when I am allowed to speak about it.)
We will be having an open house on the 13th of December from 4pm to 7pm. We will be serving refreshments and showing off the facilities. All are welcome to attend. The address is 1911 Production Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46808. Please call us at (260)480-2612 for more information and directions.
Happy Turkey Day|
Had a nice Turkey day here. Went up the in-laws, had turkey, and then worked on the website, had more turkey, and worked on website some more. Watched the Eureka marathon on SciFi. It was a lot of fun.
Still on the look-out for a good shopping cart. Paypal is good to start with, but some of the items need 3 or more options, with the possibility of changing the price based on option. Always open to suggestions.
Have a good one and safe trip home.
Small Minded Folks|
In our rush to update our website, we decided to try out a local company to do some of our web design. Spruce the pages up a bit and integrate a more robust shopping cart. I contacted a local company to look at the site and then get back with us on what they would suggest.
I get a call back about an hour after I ask them to come and chat with us saying that they don't want to work with us. They said that they saw that we offered tarot cards for sale on our web site, and because of that they couldn't work with us. I found that extremely small-minded and impressive. Small minded that they saw the word "tarot" and immediately assumed something about us was wrong. However I was impressed that they stuck to their guns and didn't take a contract for something that they felt uncomfortable with.
My question always is, "Why do people judge tarot as an automatically bad thing?" I know that I use them to play a medieval card game that is the predecessor of euchre and peanucle(sp).
The tone for this rant would be a lot different if this hadn't happened earlier in the week. Cause I was really ticked off when this happened. Oh well, enough rambling. It doesn't help me get changes to the web page completed.
Buttons and Glasses and Tarot, Oh My!|
I am in the middle of a major update to the webpage. So far I have added our new Mage: the Awakening buttons, four pages of Glasses, and all of the Tarot cards are now up on their page. Next up are some more box designs, WoD draw tokens and a few more odds and ends, yet to be decided.
Hope you like the items that are going up, and as always, we welcome suggestions on how we can serve our customers better.
The folks over at Paizo are selling a ship that we made for them. It is a three deck vessel to go with their new line of modules, or it works great if you just want a ship for your home campaign. Take a look at it at http://paizo.com/store/paizoExclusives/v5748btpy7ume&source=new we are very proud of how it came out and look forward to working with other great companies like Paizo in the future on their projects.
